Bricks Stripped from MuppetVision 3D Facade as Modifications Continue for Monsters Inc. Transformation

Good morning from Disney’s Hollywood Studios where changes are happening fast in the former Muppets Courtyard. We checked in just a couple of days ago to find some heavy facade modifications underway. While visiting this morning, we noticed even more progress!

MuppetVision 3D Facade Stripped of Bricks

As you’ll see in our photos below, crews are working hard to strip the MuppetVision 3D facade of much of the bricks that defined it for years. The work appears to be targeted, and not a full removal. More on that in a minute. First, we’ll start with a look at the construction walls, which recently expanded.

The construction walls at the future entrance to Monstropolis have expanded. This is likely to allow crews to begin working on changes to the entrance pavement and decor. Here’s a look at the former wall boundary, followed by a look at the new wall positioning.

And here’s a look at the newly expanded walls, which now reach the Grand Avenue street. This street is a critical walkway to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge on the other side of the tunnel, seen below.

Pretty great moment here, when Max and Goofy joined the line for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, but Max was more interested in photo bombing. I doubt Max reads BlogMickey.com, but hi Max!

Ok, with a look at the expanded construction walls out of the way, let’s take a closer look at the demolition happening as major facade modifications are underway, creating quite a noisy atmosphere – rudely ruining my BaseLine Tap House vibes.

Over at the former PizzeRizzo venue, more facade modifications have taken place, with plenty more work on the way!

All of this work is in support of a transformation of the area into Monstropolis, a Monsters Inc.-themed land set to open in the future. Walt Disney World has not announced an opening year, but the safe money appears to be on 2028 or later.

Whenever it opens, Monstropolis will feature a brand new roller coaster themed to the Door Vault scene from the movie. It will be Disney’s first-ever suspended roller coaster, and it’ll feature some impressive elements, such as the vertical lift start to the ride.

In addition to the built-from-scratch roller coaster, there will also be a theater show in the former MuppetVision 3D building.
