A new permit filed by Walt Disney Imagineering offers a hint as to the progress being made on transforming the former Muppets Courtyard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios into Monstropolis. The new Monsters Inc. land will feature a built-from-scratch roller coaster, along with some rethemed venues, including the former MuppetVision 3D building. Here’s a look at the permit that calls for changes at the former MuppetVision 3D location.
Permit Filed for Former MuppetVision 3D
A new permit filed by Walt Disney Imagineering calls for the installation of new set elements at the former MuppetVision 3D building at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The contractor listed is Adirondack Scenic, a popular contractor for Imagineering. The permit has a standard expiration date of one year, indicating that the work contained within the scope of this permit will be completed by early March 2027.
While details about the new Monsters Inc. “theater show” remain scarce, Disney World did confirm that plans haven’t changed, despite the omission of the theater show from a new Walt Disney Imagineering exhibit, and changing concept art for the venue.
Previously named “The Monstro” with a marquee that promised “Late Night Screams”, updated concept art for the venue changes the name to “The Glob” with a marquee that invites guests to “Meet Monstropolis”.
It was rumored that the venue would change from a theater show to a meet & greet, but that doesn’t seem to be the case, according to Disney.
While we’ve been tracking some of the work taking place to the exterior of the building, this permit suggests that work is moving along nicely indoors too. The installation of new set elements is a major milestone from the project, moving from demolition to creation.
