MuppetVision 3D Wait Time & Lightning Lane Signage Removed at Hollywood Studios

|

The Muppets are out, and the Monsters are in! As we continue to keep an eye on the transformation of the former Muppets Courtyard into Monstropolis, Disney has removed the wait time and Lightning Lane signage from the former MuppetVision 3D attraction. The latest work comes as Disney continues the transformation of the former MuppetVision 3D attraction into a “whole new theater show”, the details of which remain a mystery, but more on that in a bit.

MuppetVision 3D Wait Time & Lightning Lane Sign Removed

We’ll start with a couple of before/after photos of the work. As you’ll see, the Lightning Lane clock on the left and the wait time digital sign on the right have been removed. The marquee sign remains in the middle and could be repurposed at a later date. Here’s a closer look!

Here’s a look at the entrance to the former MuppetVision 3D attraction before it closed, showing the Lightning Lane entrance to the left, and the standby sign to the right. The standby line would enter under the main marquee, and then utilize the outdoor queue seen to the right during the busiest of times.

Here’s a closer look at the removal of the wait time and Lightning Lane signs. As you can see, the wait time sign contained vents to help with the temperature levels of the box due to the digital display.

As for what’s next for the former MuppetVision 3D space, that remains a bit of a mystery. Officially, Walt Disney World says that a “whole new theater show” will be coming to Monstropolis. However, mention of the theater show was omitted from the most recent Monstropolis preview in the Walt Disney Imagineering Presents exhibit.

To me, the omission of the show supported rumors that the original concept for the space had been scaled back. I’m not quite ready to say what the area could be used for, but my understanding is that the space may not be fully utilized for a new show.

Again, Walt Disney World maintains that there has been no change from the previously announced theater show, so I guess we’ll have to wait and see what it looks like when work is completed. I could very much be wrong, and the former MuppetVision 3D theater could be fully utilized for a new show. Concepts that I heard of for the new show sounded ambitious, but we’ll see where WDI lands.

Zooming in a bit more, we can see that updated concept art for Monstropolis has “The Glob” taking over for MuppetVision 3D.
