Just over a week ago, we flagged that there was some construction underway at the Woody’s Lunch Box seating area in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. To accommodate the closed seating area, tables were placed in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge for guests to sit down and enjoy their meal. What appeared to be a limited demolition of the flooring in the seating area has since expanded, also expanding our hopes for the project.
Seating Area Construction at Woody’s Lunch Box
As you can see in our photo below, the entire floor of the seating area has been demolished and returned to dirt. It’s honestly quite amazing to see something like this happening so early in the life of the area. It’s unclear what prompted the work, but now I’m starting to think that this isn’t a limited fix as I once thought. Best case scenario is that the seating area is being rebuilt to either allow for more seating (unlikely given that the footprint of the area hasn’t changed) or that the seating area will return as a covered seating area.
One of the biggest complaints about Toy Story Land is the lack of shade throughout the land. The lack of shade does two things: either makes your day hotter when the sun is out, or makes your day wetter when the sun is behind rain clouds. Disney can get away with outdoor seating areas in California, but Florida is a different animal.
In the photo below that deals with neither rain nor sun, we can see a portion of the seating area on the left side of the image. While there were umbrellas over the tables to try and provide some relief from the sun, they obviously did nothing when it came to rain. Unfortunately, rain is quite common in Orlando.
Back in 2021 and early 2022, Disney was actively working on a covered structure that sits unfinished and behind construction walls to this day. The structure would’ve only covered a small portion of the total seating area, so perhaps the reason that construction on that project stalled was because a larger project was in the works…
Again, Walt Disney World hasn’t commented on the project, but we hope to see some signs of a themed, covered seating area taking shape over the coming weeks. It would be kind of unbelievable if Disney World didn’t take advantage of the fact that it’s dirt again and build something better. If not, well, there’s always the Roundup Rodeo BBQ.
