While visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios recently, we decided to check in on the ongoing repaving project at Woody’s Lunch Box in Toy Story Land. Back in early September, the seating area was completely blocked off to guests, and tables were added to the nearby entrance to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The work appears to be part of a multi-year effort to upgrade the seating area, but work has been moving at a glacial pace, to say the least.
Woody’s Lunch Box Seating Area Construction
In mid-September, we noticed that all of the pavement was demolished in the seating area, presumably to make upgrades to a spot that is in desperate need of shade. The hope was that Disney wouldn’t be investing in the area unless they were making upgrades. The biggest upgrade that they could make for guests would be to add some sort of shade structure or something to protect the outdoor seating area from the unrelenting sunshine or rain in the Central Florida area.
When we last checked in on the project, there were some interesting dig spots that suggested that Disney had plans to possibly address the shade and rain concerns. When visiting recently, we had hoped to have seen some evidence of structures rising out of the ground, but as you can see, there is no such evidence.
It looks like roughly half of the seating area now has newly replaced pavement. It’ll really be a headscratcher if this project is completed without some sort of shade structure added to the seating area. We’ll continue to keep an eye on the work as we approach a completion timeframe likely before the holiday crowds start to arrive in the next 2-3 weeks.
