In a newly released video/hype trailer for why Universal Orlando Resort deserves your vacation dollars and time, Karen Irwin, President & COO of Universal Orlando Resort, has shared that plans are in the works for the first expansion at Universal Epic Universe.
As you may know, Universal Orlando Resort is opening its third theme park this May with the grand opening of Epic Universe. Epic Universe will debut with four themed IP lands expanding out from an original concept land called Celestial Park. While the highly anticipated theme park will have plenty for guests to enjoy when it opens, there are built-in expansion pads to allow the park to grow.
Universal Orlando Planning First Expansion for Epic Universe
There are already so many things in the works now. We have a slate of new attractions that were already in development for every one of our parks. We’re already planning for the next thing at Epic!
In the overview below of Epic Universe from friend of the site Bioreconstruct, we can see some dirt and grassy areas around the perimeter of Epic Universe that are ripe for expansion. There are 4 or 5 expansion pads in place, ready to be developed. That said, Universal also wants to get it right. Epic Universe will have plenty for guests to do and enjoy when it opens, so rushing out a new land or attraction right away may not make a lot of sense.
That said, we maintain the sentiment we shared in a 2021 article titled “Universal Bets, Disney Balks on Future of Theme Parks” – so it’s not surprising to see Universal Orlando Resort making quick moves to expand its newest theme park. To be fair to Disney, there is a lot in the pipeline, but with no new attractions planned to come online at Walt Disney World until 2027, Universal still has the upper hand when it comes to delivered products for guests in the next few years.
In terms of what Universal Orlando Resort could be planning for its first expansion, it’s too early to know. There are some rumors floating around, and perhaps the most solid rumor at this point is a second attraction for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which has an expansion pad right next door.

I think it’s much more important to find a better way to travel between the two park areas than to expand the park. Busses suck. Even electric busses. Universal should build some sort of continuously looping train/monorail/peoplemover type conveyance between the two areas. To me, this is much more important than park expansion. At least at this time period.
