There is a flurry of activity taking place near the Meadows Trading Post at Fort Wilderness, and we made it out to the resort recently to take a look at the start of construction. We’ve been covering the work for more than a year, dating back to an initial permit that outlined the structure being built. Officially, Walt Disney World is calling the work “confidential facility improvements” and they did not return a request for comment seeking more information about the project. Instead, we made our way out to Fort Wilderness where construction began recently.
Mysterious Construction at Fort Wilderness
Here’s a look at the blurb that is on the Walt Disney World website about the work. An end date for the work has not been disclosed, and the impact on guest areas is minimal beyond the sounds of construction equipment.
Beginning early May 2025, construction will take place near the Meadow Swimmin’ Pool area. The Meadow Swimmin’ Pool and Wilderness Swimmin’ Pool will remain open for Guests to enjoy. Guests using bus transportation should follow posted signage to reach the pool area.
Going back to the permit itself, we can see that the building will sit in a previously grassy area next to the tennis courts. Here’s an overlay that we made, showing the permit on top of a Google Maps screenshot to better illustrate where this project is located in relation to the Meadow Swimmin’ Pool.
Making our way out to Fort Wilderness, we worked around the site in a counterclockwise fashion, starting at the Meadow Swimmin’ Pool.
The nearby 1500 loop bus stop is no longer a good bus stop to use to get to the Meadows Swimmin’ Pool. Signage at the bus stop directs guests to the 1400 loop. There is a proper Meadows Pool stop, but that is on a different internal bus line than what you’d find at the 1500 loop.
As you can see in the photo below, taken from the bus stop, the bridge that used to lead to the Meadows area is now blocked off for construction.
Walt Disney World has not announced an end date for this mystery project, but we’ll keep an eye on it over the next few months as work progresses.

We were just there. We were told they are making a 3rd pool somewhere.
