Haunted Mansion Update: Construction Walls Expand & Not-So-Scary Preparations

|

|

While visiting Magic Kingdom recently, we couldn’t turn down an early-morning posted wait time of 13 minutes for the Haunted Mansion. Of course, a 13-minute posted wait time usually means that you’ll wait significantly less than that, as was the case when we visited. It also afforded us an opportunity to check in on the growing construction walls and some work taking place in the graveyard. Here’s a look around!

Expanding Construction Walls at Haunted Mansion

Since our last update, construction walls have expanded to block off all views of the former Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island. Walt Disney World hasn’t begun draining the Rivers of America yet, although the water level has been dropping slowly. When Disney begins draining the Rivers of America, we’ll be able to measure the work in days, not weeks or months.

To that end, Disney has already taken the step of blocking views from the queue of the Haunted Mansion. Previously, this was a nice waterfront view of the river and Tom Sawyer Island, but it will all become a construction zone shortly.

Graveyard Prep for Not-So-Scary

Another change to the queue includes preparations for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. We’ve seen some speculation that utility markers were for early construction of Villains land or something like that, but that is, uh, not the case.

Every year, Disney utilizes the graveyard area just before you enter the mansion as a show area where guests can interact with ghosts during the party. As you can see in the photos below, Disney has begun preparation in the area. Disney has to add speakers, lighting, and other effects to the area to create the spooky ambiance. That’s what’s happening – not Villains land construction.

  1. This wall at Haunted Mansion is terrible.
It turns the ride que into a coffin. No air flow, fans that dont work made our 45 minute standby wait a miserable hell. Temperatures were well above 110 inside this part of the que. The castmembers who worked there apologized but there was nothing they could do. I made a complaint at guest relations, my suggestion was to make the imagineers who came up with this idea of a wooden wall wait in that que. Then we’d get relief.
    This construction is ridiculous.
