UPDATE: New Monsters Inc. Land at Hollywood Studios Will Be Named Monstropolis

|

Following some speculation, we have learned that the new Monsters Inc.-themed land coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios will, in fact, be called Monstropolis. The confirmation comes from Walt Disney World, as they are (and have been) using the Monstropolis naming in not only the new Walt Disney Imagineering display at Hollywood Studios, but in some press materials before that. Here’s the latest.

New Hollywood Studios Land Named ‘Monstropolis’

Some brief background on why this is notable. On the same day that the Imagineering preview display opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney filed a trademark application for the use of “Monstropolis” across a wide variety of use cases, including “Amusement park and theme park services” and “Entertainment services in the nature of an amusement park show”.

I thought the filing was notable, so I published an article speculating that the new land could indeed be called “Monstropolis”. As it turns out, the Imagineering preview display isn’t the first time that we’ve seen Disney refer to the Monsters Inc. Land as Monstropolis.

Back in March 2025, the Disney Parks Blog seemed to offer a name for the new Monsters Inc.-themed land. As you can see below, Disney began referring to the new land as Monstropolis. Fans of the Monsters Inc. franchise will know that Monstropolis is the name of the city where the main characters live and work in the movies.

Taking to the stage during The Future of World-Building at Disney panel at SXSW, Pixar Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter and Imagineer Michael Hundgen walked the crowd through their latest upcoming immersive space to occupy Disney’s Hollywood Studios: Monstropolis.

First announced at last year’s D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Imagineers are hard at work bringing the world of Pixar Animation Studios’ Monsters, Inc. to life — and that includes its monster inhabitants, James P. Sullivan, Mike Wazowski, and more. While getting to walk through the streets of Monstropolis is exciting enough, the land will include a signature attraction where guests embark on a thrilling roller coaster ride through the Monsters, Inc. door vault.
Disney Parks Blog

Before the March 2025 Parks Blog article, Disney simply referred to the land as Monsters Inc. Land or “the world of Monsters, Inc.”.

So, not only does it seem like the name of the land was officially “announced” back in March, but Disney has referred to the land by “Monstropolis” since then, and we have learned that the land will be called “Monstropolis” and not “Monsters Inc. Land” when it opens to the public.

Of course, using the Monstropolis name makes a ton of sense given the locale that we’re visiting.

The story of the land will pick up after the events of Pixar’s beloved film. Humans have now been invited to visit Monstropolis, and the monsters need laughter to power the city and keep it running smoothly. Monsters Inc. Land will feature a brand new suspended roller coaster that will take guests through the door vault as seen in the movie.

We have also been recently told that plans for the “new theater show” replacing MuppetVision 3D have reportedly not changed, despite the theater show being omitted from a sign at the Imagineering preview display.
