Construction to Obstruct Views of Magic Kingdom at ‘Ohana in Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

|

Work is underway on the exterior of the Great Ceremonial House at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. This continues work that began more than two years ago to refresh the exterior of the aging buildings at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Now, the exterior refurbishment has made its way to a part of the main lobby building, and it will soon block views from the popular ‘Ohana restaurant. Here’s the latest, along with a boots-on-the-ground report of work taking place today.

Obstructed Views at ‘Ohana Restaurant

We’ll start with the easy part, a statement from Walt Disney World about the exterior maintenance. As you can see, Disney says that “views of the Seven Seas Lagoon from ‘Ohana may be partially or completely obstructed” during the work.

Beginning January 15, 2026, portions of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will undergo exterior maintenance. During this time, views of the Seven Seas Lagoon from ‘Ohana may be partially or completely obstructed. We apologize for any inconvenience.

After visiting Magic Kingdom this morning, we made our way to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort to find crews hard at work already. When we visited, crews were cutting away a portion of the wooden overhang just outside the second-floor windows of the ‘Ohana restaurant. This is likely just the early work that will, we presume, lead to all-new wood being installed as part of the exterior refurbishment.

Scaffolding sits nearby, suggesting that this portion of the building may be wrapped in scaffolding and scrims soon.

It’s unclear how long the refurbishment will last, but previous buildings have taken more than a month, and this project looks to be more involved than other work we’ve seen. I would bet on this project taking at least a few months, if not into the Summer season.
