VIDEO: Watch the Final ‘Let the Magic Begin’ Welcome Show Before Hiatus

Starting tomorrow, January 28th, Walt Disney World has no showtimes for the Let the Magic Begin welcome show at Magic Kingdom. The show has not had showtimes past the 27th for quite some time now, indicating that the show will not be presented starting tomorrow. We made it out to Magic Kingdom this morning to watch the welcome show one last time before the apparent hiatus for the Cinderella Castle repainting project that is due to start any day now.

VIDEO: Final ‘Let the Magic Begin’ Welcome Show Prior to Hiatus

The Let the Magic Begin welcome show is a 2.5-minute show that takes place every morning on the castle forecourt stage in front of Cinderella Castle. The show serves as the official opening of Magic Kingdom, with all of the lands opening for regular guests at the conclusion of the show. That said, it looks like the show will experience a hiatus starting tomorrow, January 28th, if the Walt Disney World website is to be believed. Walt Disney World did not return a request for comment.

First, here’s a look at the show this morning. The show has been presented without fireworks for at least a couple of weeks now.

Previously, Walt Disney World said that the show would be modified beginning January 28th. Since then, we’ve tracked the changes coming to the Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire showtimes, and the end of showtimes for the morning welcome show.

While we’ve reached out to Walt Disney World for clarification, we haven’t heard back. While there are obviously no showtimes listed starting January 28th, it’s possible that some sort of show will be presented. There will likely not be any cranes up tomorrow, as the draining of the Cinderella Castle moat hasn’t begun yet.

In fact, we’ve previously outlined that we think that the Cinderella Castle repainting project is behind schedule. Disney previously announced that the moat would be drained by now, and that cranes would be visible in the morning hours. It was our understanding that the draining was supposed to occur over the past couple of weeks, and that tomorrow was supposed to be the start of the repainting project – signaled by the arrival of high-reach cranes.

If we assume that cranes were supposed to be on site starting tomorrow, it would make sense why there would be no showtimes for the Let the Magic Begin welcome show.

If I were Disney, I wouldn’t want to put Mickey Mouse and friends on a stage while there is construction equipment just steps away.

Instead, I would present an alternative, character-less welcome show and remove the showtimes from the website to prevent any confusion.

That seems to be what’s happening, but we won’t know for sure until tomorrow morning. In the meantime, we’ll have to assume that the Let the Magic Begin welcome show will be on hiatus for a few months as Walt Disney World works to repaint Cinderella Castle back to classic colors.
