Let the Magic Begin Character Welcome Show Not Returning to Magic Kingdom, Watch the Last-Ever Performance

Walt Disney World has confirmed that the Let the Magic Begin welcome show will not be returning to Magic Kingdom after all. Walt Disney World had previously announced that the show was only being temporarily modified due to the repainting of Cinderella Castle. Here’s a full look at how we got here.

Let the Magic Begin Welcome Show Canceled

Back in January, we were at Magic Kingdom to not only capture the new audio-only welcome “show”, but also what has now been confirmed to be the final performance of Let the Magic Begin. Check out our video below for a look at the last-ever Let the Magic Begin welcome show at Magic Kingdom.

On the morning of January 28, 2026, a modified version of the “Let the Magic Begin” welcome show debuted at Magic Kingdom, with no characters on stage. The change was directly tied to the start of the Cinderella Castle repainting project, which had begun overnight. We covered the debut of the modified show that morning.

Disney’s official statement at the time, added to its website that same day, framed the change as temporary: “Cinderella Castle is currently undergoing a magical transformation. Due to project work, Let The Magic Begin will be temporarily modified. While characters will not be making an appearance during this time, you will still hear the welcome fanfare and music to start your day at Magic Kingdom.”

As the weeks and months ticked by, the audio-only show continued running each day five minutes before regular park opening. Guests at rope drop were still hearing the familiar fanfare, but the Castle Forecourt Stage sat empty of the characters that made the moment feel special.

Meanwhile, the Cinderella Castle repaint project was wrapping up. As of May 2026, Walt Disney World has materially completed the Cinderella Castle makeover. The high-reach cranes have been removed from the moat, and the updated castle now features grays, creams, blues, and touches of gold aimed at enhancing its classic architecture.

With the castle work basically done, the natural assumption was that “Let the Magic Begin” would bounce back alongside the return of Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire’s full schedule. That assumption turned out to be wrong.

The clearest signal that something more permanent was happening came when Disney quietly removed the “Let the Magic Begin” listing from its website altogether.

Now, BlogMickey.com has learned that the Let the Magic Begin show has been canceled as Disney focuses its efforts on entertainment with higher utilization. Simply put, guests are so focused on rope dropping attractions in the morning that the Let the Magic Begin welcome show wasn’t highly attended.

In fact, it wasn’t uncommon to see the vast majority of guests lined up at the different land entrances to rope drop rides versus in front of Cinderella Castle to watch the welcome show. And that doesn’t even include the hundreds (or thousand-plus) guests that are already in Fantasyland and Tomorrowland to enjoy Early Entry.

While I think it’s a loss not to have a magical moment of Mickey, Minnie, and their pals running out on stage to welcome guests to the busiest theme park in the world, it’s also true that it wasn’t a priority for the majority of guests.

As always, keep checking back with us here at BlogMickey.com as we continue to bring you the latest news, photos, and info from around the Disney Parks!
