We’re experiencing a sort of “bank error in your favor” situation at Magic Kingdom as we approach one month of the Cinderella Castle painting project, and have yet to spot a single crane. The first coat of grey paint was applied to Cinderella Castle in late January, and while Disney fans are used to seeing cranes hugging the castle during any repainting project, we haven’t seen as much as a single tire track in the drained moat basin. Here’s the latest.
Crane-less Cinderella Castle Painting Continues
We’ll start with a little bit of context as to why the lack of cranes is surprising (beyond recent history). Back in late-December, Disney outlined the planned construction schedule for the repainting. Namely, Disney said that guests would notice work around Cinderella Castle in early January. The work was scheduled to begin with the draining of the moat, and then the arrival of cranes.
Disney said that operational changes would begin January 28th with adjustments to the Let the Magic Begin welcome show and Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire. The thought, although unconfirmed, was that the cranes would arrive on January 28th, prompting the operational changes to the two Castle stage shows.
Critically, Disney said that any cranes that would be visible to guests and extended into view would be fully out of view by noon each day.
Well, we’ve been pleasantly surprised that no cranes have arrived so far, but there has been plenty of progress on the repainting project. Here’s a look at Cinderella Castle from our visit to Magic Kingdom earlier today!
