Good afternoon from Disney’s Animal Kingdom where the demolition of the remaining parts of DinoLand USA has kicked into high gear. The former dinosaur-themed land in Disney’s Animal Kingdom certainly sounds like a construction site today, with hammers and saws heard by guests walking by the area. Here’s a look at the changes that we noticed, just days after DinoLand USA closed for good.
DinoLand USA Demolition at Animal Kingdom
We’ll start just steps away from the former entrance to DinoLand USA. As you can see, the remaining footers for the DinoLand USA sign have been removed from either side of the walkway. Here’s a before/current of the area.
Other work visible from nearby guest areas includes the extensive demolition of a walkway that used to cut through the land to the DINOSAUR attraction.
Dino-Sue Marked for Demolition
Speaking of the DINOSAUR attraction, the “Dino-Sue” skeleton remains standing for now, but it appears to be marked for demolition. We also spotted a debris removal truck backing up past Dino-Sue and into the DINOSAUR courtyard.

Tyrannosaurus Rex “Sue”
The fossil cast is an exact replica of “Sue”, the most complete Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton ever found. Named for her discoverer, Sue was found in South Dakota on August 12, 1990. Sue is 90% complete, a fossil find of enormous importance to the study of dinosaurs.
During her lifetime in the Late Cretaceous Period (67-65 million years ago) Sue weighed seven tons and measured 42 feet in length, making her the largest T. rex yet discovered.

Now, it looks like Sue is being prepared to be demolished, with spray paint marks on her, similar to what we see on other structures in the land.
Finally, the columns on either side of the entrance courtyard to the DINOSAUR attraction have been demolished. Here’s a look at the columns as they stood before the land closed.

And here’s the same area with the columns missing from our visit to Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The columns likely had to be removed to allow the debris truck to enter and exit the courtyard easier.
