Guests visiting Magic Kingdom should be aware of a recent change to the Disney Starlight parade route. Starting yesterday, the Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away parade changed operations for the first time since it debuted last Summer. Typically, the parade has always started in Town Square and finished in Frontierland. Now, an operational adjustment will change that. Here’s what we know.
Disney Starlight Parade Route Changes
Starting with yesterday’s parade performances, Walt Disney World has made an operational change to the Disney Starlight parade route. More specifically, the change is to the direction that the parade travels down the route. The route itself is still from Town Square, down Main Street USA, past Cinderella Castle, through Liberty Square, and on to Frontierland. What has changed is the direction that the parade travels.
On nights when there is one showing of the Disney Starlight Parade, the direction that the parade travels will remain the same. That is, the first parade will kick off in Town Square and then end in Frontierland.
For the second parade, that route direction will be reversed. The second parade will start in Frontierland and end in Town Square. Here’s a look at the route (red dashes), along with the updated parade direction information.
Ultimately, I think this change is a smart one. Typically, the Happily Ever After fireworks show is presented between the first and second parade showtimes. This means that Main Street USA is packed with guests from Cinderella Castle to Town Square.
By moving the second parade showtime to a Frontierland start point, it will allow more guests to exit Magic Kingdom after the fireworks show without having to deal with navigating around parade route setup.
The parade route change took effect yesterday, February 12th, and it is expected to continue to be the standard operating procedure from here forward.
