Pumps Arrive for Cinderella Castle Moat Draining at Magic Kingdom

Crews continue to prepare for the imminent draining of the moat around Cinderella Castle as part of a refurbishment project for the exterior of the iconic structure. As you may know, Cinderella Castle is being repainted to a classic grey look after sporting a “rose pink” look for the 70th Anniversary of the Cinderella film.

Crews Prepare to Drain Moat Around Cinderella Castle

During a recent visit to Magic Kingdom, we spotted the installation of pumps on either side of Cinderella Castle as crews prepare to drain the moat. The pumps can be found near the Portadams – temporary cofferdams that will allow crews to drain a portion of the moat. Once the moat is drained, crews will be able to bring in high-reach cranes to paint the majority of the Castle during a multi-month process. As previously announced, the high-reach cranes will be visible during the morning hours, but will be lowered by noon each day to provide clear views of Cinderella Castle in the afternoons and evenings.

Here’s a look at the latest work from our recent visit to Magic Kingdom. Changes since our last check-in on the project include the arrival of a Portadam on the Tomorrowland side of the moat, and the arrival of pumps on either side of Cinderella Castle.
