Disney CEO D’Amaro: “Always Exploring New Ways for Guests to Engage with Figment”

It isn’t a Disney shareholder meeting without a question about Figment. Josh D’Amaro’s first shareholder meeting as Disney CEO was no different. At today’s meeting, D’Amaro closed out the meeting with a shareholder question about the lovable dragon that calls EPCOT home. Here’s what D’Amaro had to say.

D’Amaro Answers Questions About Adding More Figment to EPCOT or Movies

We’ll start with what D’Amaro said, followed by a bit of speculation about the future of Figment. The question asked was “Would Disney consider creating a unique film for Figment? Or do you have any plans to bring more Figment to your parks or content?”

D’Amaro said that he has been listening in and attending the shareholder meetings for some time, and he’s very aware that a Figment question usually pops up. D’Amaro said that he loves that there is always a Figment question and that there is so much adoration for Figment. D’Amaro said that Figment has stood the test of time as a fan favorite.

While D’Amaro said that he had “nothing new to announce today”, we think that there’s more brewing. D’Amaro closed by saying that he can assure guests that Disney is “always exploring new ways for guests to engage with Figment, and other of our characters that fans love so much”.

Now, this could just be a figment of my imagination, but I think that there’s more at play here. The timing of Figment’s appearance in the How Not to Draw video series is no accident. In fact, we’d point back to a November 2023 video when Figment walked into Imagineering as the genesis of what is to come. You don’t have Figment walk into Imagineering headquarters without some sort of grand plan…right?

While I’m grasping at straws, I’d also point out that the shareholder questions are very likely not as random or unexpected as they once were. Since moving to an all-digital format, the questions are likely pre-screened, and executives may even have the opportunity to weigh in on what questions make it into the final presentation.

If that’s the case, and I have no reason to believe that questions aren’t chosen ahead of time, that would mean that D’Amaro would’ve set this proverbial ball right on a tee to swing at during his first shareholder meeting. Sticking with the t-ball metaphor, the only question that I have is: why didn’t he knock it out of the park?

Perhaps the shareholder meeting isn’t the format that Disney wants to use to announce an overhaul to the Figment attraction at EPCOT. Maybe Disney is waiting for the 2026 D23 Expo this August to make an announcement. Or, and here’s an even worse thought, maybe Disney really doesn’t have anything up its sleeve with regards to Figment.
