Disney is taking a new flight of fancy into the Imagination! Pavilion at EPCOT. The news came during the closing moments of the Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. Figment is getting a new journey at EPCOT, and this time, Dreamfinder is coming along for the ride. Disney Experiences Chairman Thomas Mazloum announced the news to a cheering crowd at the Honda Center on August 15th, though a timeline, attraction name, and scope of construction remain a mystery at this time. Here’s a closer look at the details and the moment from inside the Honda Center!

Dreamfinder and Figment Reimagining Announced for EPCOT’s Imagination Pavilion

  • Disney confirmed Dreamfinder and Figment are reuniting for a new journey into imagination at EPCOT
  • The announcement came during the Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase at D23 Expo 2026
  • Both characters have deep roots in the original 1983 Journey Into Imagination attraction

Mazloum framed the news as a direct response to fan demand. “We are taking a new journey into imagination at EPCOT with Dreamfinder and Figment,” he told the crowd. “Iโ€™m so happy to share this news tonight. We know how important this is to you. Weโ€™ve heard you, and this is one more way weโ€™re putting you in the center of everything we do.” The news came after host Neil Patrick Harris showed up in a “one more thing” moment, dressed as Dreamfinder.

itโ€™s time to take a new flight of fancy into our imagination at EPCOT. Not only will everyoneโ€™s favorite creative purple dragon be sticking around, but heโ€™s finally reunited with Dreamfinder, too.

Disney has not released concept art, an opening timeline, or details on what will change inside the current Journey Into Imagination With Figment attraction. As we reported when Disney confirmed the Horizons showcase livestream and Imagineer lineup, this year’s presentation was framed as a progress report on projects Disney first revealed in 2024. That angle makes the Figment and Dreamfinder news a notable exception, since Disney had not previously teased the project, despite heavy fan speculation.

Ahead of the expo, we flagged Journey Into Imagination as one of the event’s biggest open questions, and stopped short of calling an update to the ride a lock. Disney has teased a bigger Figment presence for years without confirming a project. The character’s limited reach into Disney’s broader One Disney strategy left us less certain than in years past that the Experiences division would fund a full update. Saturday’s announcement was fan service in the largest sense of the word, and it was very well received within the Honda Center.

The announcement follows years of speculation and hope about the future of the Imagination! pavilion.

Who Is Figment?

Figment has been a fixture at EPCOT since Journey Into Imagination originally opened on March 5, 1983. The small purple dragon was created as a physical manifestation of imagination itself. He has anchored the pavilion through several versions of the attraction over more than four decades. Figment now ranks among EPCOT’s most recognizable characters, while remaining an original character to the park. Guests can meet him inside the Imagination! pavilion, and his likeness appears across EPCOT and festival merchandise.

The character has served as the mascot of EPCOT International Festival of the Arts since its debut season in 2017. A novelty popcorn bucket sparked a new wave of popularity for Figment in 2022 when it went viral online.

Who Is Dreamfinder?

Before there was Figment, there was Dreamfinder, the whimsical dream-chaser who helped bring imagination to life. He debuted alongside Figment when the original Journey Into Imagination opened in 1983. Dreamfinder played the whimsical inventor and dream-chaser who created Figment as a literal figment of his imagination. Guests followed him through the attraction as he collected sounds, colors, and ideas. He served as mentor, creator, and friend to the dragon he brought to life.

Dreamfinder remained part of Journey Into Imagination for 15 years, from the attraction’s 1983 opening through 1998. Disney removed him during a 1999 overhaul of the ride. Despite not being a part of the attraction since 1998, Dreamfinder remains a fan favorite.

Expect more details on the project, including a name and timeline, as Disney’s plans develop.
