In a press release showcasing the impressive demand for the Zootopia 2 streaming debut on Disney+, Disney shared some additional details about how well the Zootopia land and attraction are performing in Shanghai Disney Resort. The attraction is the highest-rated attraction at the park, and the Zootopia land is a massive driver of attendance. Here’s the latest!

Zootopia Popularity at Shanghai Disneyland

As the Zootopia 2 film enjoyed a massive debut on the Disney+ platform of 32 million views during its first week, the Zootopia land in Shanghai Disneyland is also enjoying continued popularity since it opened back in 2023.

In 2023, the Shanghai Disney Resort opened the first Zootopia-themed land, introducing guests to the Mammalian Metropolis and bringing the beloved animal residents of the film to life.

“One of the most exciting things, to me, is that about 70% of what you see in that land is taken from the film; the other 30% comes from the incredible Imagineers who ran with their own ideas and created new places and characters that felt like they would fit within the world,” Jared Bush, the writer and co-director of Zootopia, said. “To visit a part of Zootopia that wasn’t in the film — but feels 100% like it could be — is incredibly exciting.”

Its signature attraction, Zootopia: Hot Pursuit, is the highest-rated attraction at Shanghai Disneyland. The family-friendly Hot Pursuit is not just innovative thanks to a trackless ride system, but also puts guests right in the middle of the action alongside Officers Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde. The attraction—which is set after the timeline of the film—invites guests to become rookie police officers as they help Judy and Nick track down criminals after a jailbreak.

“The Zootopia land in Shanghai is incredible,” Ke Huy Quan, voice of Gary De’Snake raved. “When I was there, on a regular day in the park, the line for [Zootopia: Hot Pursuit] was around the block. And there were cosplayers dressed up as Judy Hopps! That’s how I knew how much this movie is beloved.”

A whopping 25% of guests say that the Zootopia land is the reason that they even visited Shanghai Disneyland.

Leveraging cutting-edge technology, the park also rapidly integrated new content inspired by Zootopia 2, debuting the film’s latest Gazelle song with one of the newest Audio-Animatronics just weeks after the film’s theatrical release.

Plus, guests go wild for the food too — over 4.8M Disney Zootopia Pawpsicles (480 tons of ice cream!) have been sold to date.

Stateside, guests can experience Zootopia characters in the Zootopia: Better Zoogether attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
