The new Zootopia ride at Shanghai Disney has been closed today after an incident where a child was reportedly run over by a ride vehicle. The incident occurred earlier today, December 24th.

According to social media reports, the child was able to jump out of the ride vehicle after the child dropped a headband. Video shows the child walking along the ride path of the attraction as the ride continues to operate. After some amount of time, the child was struck by the still-operating attraction and appeared to be pinned under a portion of the vehicle. Some social media reports say that the child was dragged by the vehicle before an emergency stop was engaged.

The ride is listed as being temporarily closed on the Shanghai Disney app. Shanghai Disney released the following statement:

“Zootopia: Hot Pursuit” is temporarily out of service and will remain closed for the remainder of the day today. The other offerings of Zootopia including entertainment, F&B and merchandise continue to operate as normal.

We apologize for the inconvenience and we hope to invite guests that hold a redeemed Shanghai Disneyland ticket of December 24, 2023 back to the park to experience the attraction on one of the days from January 2 – June 30, 2024. Please find the detailed instructions on the resort’s official platforms to arrange your next visit.
