Extensive, Multi-Year Exterior Work Now Underway at Disney’s Contemporary Resort

While visiting Magic Kingdom today, we noticed some scaffolding being installed on the southwest side of Disney’s Contemporary Resort. After our visit to Magic Kingdom, we popped over to Contemporary to get a closer look at the work taking place. Here’s a look, along with the latest refurbishment information for the classic resort.

Exterior Maintenance Work Underway at Disney’s Contemporary Resort

As part of an updated refurbishment message for Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney says that exterior maintenance is now underway at the Main Tower and that refurbishment is expected to last through late 2027.

September 2024 Through Late 2027
Refurbishment work will occur in phases throughout select areas of Disney’s Contemporary Resort, including the atrium, Bay Lake Tower and the Main Tower. The Main Tower will undergo exterior maintenance beginning March 23, 2026, which may impact views from various locations throughout the Resort hotel and, at times, require alternate paths of travel. Guests may see or hear construction during daytime hours.

We noticed crews installing scaffolding along the southwest side of Disney’s Contemporary Resort. The work is expected to be extensive, perhaps occurring in phases as seen today.

From what we could tell, there were about 20 rooms taken out of service as crews installed construction walls and scaffolding along this section of the hotel. We imagine that the work will take place in phases, but that the entire exterior of the hotel will be refreshed by the time the calendar reads 2028.

From what we could tell, and from Disney’s notice, the work was taking place along the balconies and exterior face of the hotel. Some paneling was removed, and construction walls were installed.

From the inside of the hotel, you can’t really tell that work is taking place. There are no construction walls or visual impact from the work. That said, you may see construction workers walking around from time to time.

We’ll start our exteiror photo update with a zoomed-out photo to show the relatively small impact on the hotel and the location of the work. We’ll then zoom in as we get closer to the work.

For future reference, here’s a room block that has not yet been touched. We’ll see if there is anything obvious when we have a before/after in a few weeks or months.
