After taking a look at the newly revealed psychedelic guitar over at Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, we made our way to the Walt Disney Studios Lot area to find some more construction walls removed and a new mural! As you may know, the former Animation Courtyard is in the process of being reimagined into an area themed to the Walt Disney Studios Lot. Here’s a look at the latest work!

Construction Walls Removed, Silly Symphony Mural Added to Walt Disney Studios Lot

Since our last update, more work has taken place as Disney targets a May 26th opening of the Walt Disney Studios Lot courtyard and Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! show. The Magic of Disney Animation (building with the sorcerer hat) will open later this Summer.

New work includes more painting on The Magic of Disney Animation facade, more construction walls removed from the courtyard, and a new Silly Symphony mural. The Silly Symphony is a series of 75 cartoons, beginning with The Skeleton Dance in 1929. Composer Carl Stalling suggested to Walt Disney that there be a second cartoon series to be different from the Mickey Mouse series, which was based on comedic action centered around one character.

The Silly Symphonies would be based on musical themes, and each would feature a different cast of characters. The series served as the training ground for the animators and other Disney artists as they prepared for the feature films. Seven Silly Symphonies won Academy Awards for best cartoon.
