Solar Trash Cans Debut at Magic Kingdom, But They’re Unthemed

The solar-powered trash cans that Walt Disney World has been rolling out across EPCOT have now reached Magic Kingdom. We spotted the first solar-powered trash cans in the queue for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. They appear near the main entrance and at several points along the queue path. Unlike the EPCOT versions, these new cans currently don’t have theming. They replace the prior trash cans, which featured a “Help Keep Our Bayou Clean” decal.

First Solar Sighting at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

We found several of the new solar-powered trash and recycling cans in the queue for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. It marks the first appearance of the trash cans at Magic Kingdom. The bins sit near the attraction’s main entrance and at multiple points along the queue path.

The cans match the functionality already familiar to EPCOT guests. Each pairs a trash compactor with a recycling bin. The outdoor units retain the solar panel lid that keeps the internal battery charged.

An Unthemed Design, For Now

EPCOT’s units carry World Showcase pavilion medallions and other land-specific touches. The bins at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure show no theming tied to the attraction. They stand in plain brown and black housing.

That is a change from what guests saw before. The previous trash cans in the queue featured a purple and red “Help Keep Our Bayou Clean” decal. A pelican and cattails on the decal referenced the bayou setting. It would stand to reason that the decal would be easy to add to the solar trash cans later, but Disney hasn’t detailed plans.

Disney has previously stated that Walt Disney Imagineering is working to preserve land-specific theming as the rollout continues beyond EPCOT. Our story so far, below, covers that history. Whether the Tiana’s Bayou Adventure units are finished or not remains unclear.

Story So Far

Here’s a look at theming for other trash cans around Magic Kingdom. Most lands and areas contain plain colors. That said, some areas have relatively highly themed trash cans. It’ll be interesting to continue to watch the rollout at Magic Kingdom and beyond.
