Building Foundation Work Underway on NEW Imagineering Campus Near Magic Kingdom

Foundation work is underway on the new Walt Disney Imagineering campus at the STOLport site near Magic Kingdom, and our latest photos show one building’s foundation taking shape. Crews have begun to lay out what appears to be a reinforcing steel grid across a portion of the building pad. Stacks of structural steel wait nearby. The South Florida Water Management District approved the permit for this building and a second one shortly before Thanksgiving last year. As work ramps up at Magic Kingdom, so too does Walt Disney Imagineering’s presence at the world’s busiest theme park.

Imagineering Campus Foundation Work Near Magic Kingdom

IN THIS ARTICLE:

  • What the foundation work looks like at the new building site
  • The steel, materials, and equipment staged around the pad
  • How the building fits into Imagineering’s expanded presence near Magic Kingdom

Walt Disney Imagineering is expanding its footprint at STOLport, the former airstrip next to the Magic Kingdom parking lot. The approved permit covers two buildings, plus parking, sidewalks, utilities, and drainage. All of that adds up to a new Magic Kingdom area campus for Walt Disney Imagineering. We covered the approval when Disney received the green light for the 12.5-acre expansion. Our new photos taken from the monorail show one of those buildings moving from paperwork to foundation work.

Foundation Prep at the Building Pad

The building pad is a large rectangle. Crews have covered most of it in bright yellow sheeting with red tape along the seams. Rebar appears to run along the edges and in rows across the pad. White pipes stand up through the sheeting, likely marking where utilities will connect to the building.

Together, that points to a concrete slab foundation, so a pour is the likely next step. Workers in high-visibility vests can be seen working across the pad in our photos. Bundles of rebar sit on bare dirt along one edge, so more reinforcing steel is likely still waiting to go in. Excavators and a skid steer work around the surrounding site, and mounds of dirt sit beyond the pad.

Steel and Equipment Line the Access Road

Stacks of gray structural steel sit along the fence on the near side of the access road, which suggests framing will follow the foundation. Sections of what appear to be large concrete drainage pipe sit stacked nearby, which fits the stormwater work in the permit.

Storage containers, contractor trucks, and portable restrooms line the road beside the pad. Telehandlers work along the perimeter. Existing blue office trailers still stand beyond the construction area. That keeps the site an active working base as the permanent buildings take shape. Both buildings are likely expanded support space for construction at and around Magic Kingdom, including Piston Peak National Park and Villains Land. Walt Disney Imagineering has a temporary trailer setup closer to the northwest corner of Magic Kingdom as well.
