Imagineering Files Permit for Monstropolis Playground Area

Walt Disney Imagineering filed a Notice of Commencement permit today for an address of a playground area coming to Monstropolis at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The permit lists Landscape Structures, a Minnesota company that manufactures commercial playground equipment, as the contractor for general construction. Landscape Structures has worked with Disney before, including a play area at EPCOT, and is also building the upcoming playground in Tropical Americas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Here’s the latest.

IN THIS ARTICLE:

  • Landscape Structures is the named contractor for general construction in Monstropolis
  • The company supplied equipment for a play area at EPCOT in 2016 and is building the Tropical Americas playground
  • The permit uses the standard one-year window, which ends around October 2027

Another piece of Monstropolis now has a permit attached to it. Imagineering filed the Notice of Commencement permit today, with Landscape Structures listed as the contractor and general construction as the scope of work. We’ve followed this part of the land since Disney walled off Muppets Courtyard in 2025, when concept art showed a central park area replacing the Stage 1 Company Store.

What the Permit Lists

The Notice of Commencement names Walt Disney Imagineering as the owner and lists the work as “General Construction” at 361 Cypress Drive. That address is for the former Stage 1 Company Store, but we think it’s being used as a sort of catch-all for this particular permit. Landscape Structures Inc., based in Delano, Minnesota, is the contractor. The permit leaves the expiration line blank, which means the standard one-year window applies.

General construction is the only scope listed, so what the playground area will include is still a question. What we do know comes from earlier concept art. We noted that we don’t think the permit address perfectly aligns with the area of work. Instead, we think that this permit points to the playground that will be located to the left of the Door Vault roller coaster entrance. We can see the playground in two pieces of concept art previously released by Disney.

Landscape Structures’ Disney Experience

At the 2016 EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival, Landscape Structures supplied the equipment for the Music Garden Melodies play area. The space served kids ages 2 to 12. Six Rhapsody Outdoor Musical Instruments, including chimes, metallophones, and drums, sat alongside Disney’s “Fab Five” topiaries.

The same area offered a Netplex climbing structure with custom shade for ages 5 to 12. A PlayBooster structure with crawl tunnels and slides served ages 2 to 5. Landscape Structures said that 2016 was its 13th year as a participant in the festival.

The company is also building the upcoming playground in Tropical Americas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. We reported its location in October 2025, when permit information listed a “New Build Playground” on the former Cretaceous Trail. A later permit layout appeared to show multiple slides and climbing features. That experience with themed, family-friendly spaces should translate well to a land built around human visitors.
