First Section of Frontierland Boardwalk Now Closed to Guests at Magic Kingdom

Good afternoon from Magic Kingdom, where we’re hanging out in Frontierland. After enjoying Jessie’s Roundup, we walked outside the Diamond Horseshoe to notice the first section of boardwalk in Frontierland had been closed off to guests. This is just the first part of a multi-phase closure that will eventually see the entire length of boardwalk behind construction walls. The work is part of the ongoing efforts to transform the former Tom Sawyer Island into the Cars-themed Piston Peak National Park. Here’s a look!

As you can see in our photos below, construction walls now block a section of the Frontierland boardwalk. We’ll put together a series of before/current of the work as spotted during our visit to Magic Kingdom this afternoon.

In addition to a section of the boardwalk being closed off, a new walkway opened. Disney paved over a former small stream, sometimes referred to as the Little Mississippi. This stream was sort of an officially unofficial dividing point between Frontierland and Liberty Square. Technically, the closed portion of the boardwalk sits in Liberty Square, but that’s beside the point.
