Disney’s Contemporary Resort Illuminated With a Heart During Theme Park Closures

Home is where the heart is.

Disney’s Contemporary Resort is not only one of the most iconic hotels at Walt Disney World, it is also a sign of hope and love during the theme park closures thanks to some Cast Members who decided to light up a heart as the hotel sits empty.

As the sun rose on Central Florida this morning, the heart remained in place until it was overtaken by daylight.

As you likely know, the Walt Disney World theme parks and resorts are closed indefinitely due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

While we don’t know when the parks and resorts will reopen, Disney is accepting new reservations for June 1st and beyond.

Disney’s Contemporary Resort joins other area resorts such as Universalโ€™s Aventura Hotel in illuminating a heart while the theme parks and tourist destinations remain closed. Photos below from @bioreconstruct.

The Walt Disney World theme parks closed on March 16th, and are currently in an unprecedented period of closure as Disney does its part to help “flatten the curve“.

As the closest Disney resort to Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Contemporary Resort is an iconic A-frame hotel featuring a main tower and Garden Wing. Disney’s Contemporary Resort opened back in 1971 as one of two Disney resorts available to guests when Magic Kingdom first opened its gates. Inside the hotel, a 90-foot-tall mural by Disney Legend Mary Blairโ€”responsible for the distinct look and feel of the โ€œitโ€™s a small worldโ€ attractionโ€”celebrates the Grand Canyon and the American Southwest. As you can see in our photo below, the Walt Disney World Monorail passes through the resorts as guests head to Magic Kingdom.
