Is Disney Targeting a Mid-February Soft Opening for Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure?

With a portion of the France Pavilion expansion now open at EPCOT, many fans are wondering if we’re getting closer to a grand opening of the Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure attraction. Officially, Disney has committed to a “2021” opening for the attraction. Disney has not given any further details on a timeline – not even a month or season in which they plan on opening the attraction. Prior to COVID-19, Disney planned on opening Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in “Summer 2020”, but those plans were obviously delayed.

Now, some fans are speculating about a mid-February opening for the attraction based on the Cast Member blockout schedule. According to the schedule, Cast Members are blocked out from visiting EPCOT every day of the week beginning February 13th. Until February 13th, Cast Members are only prevented from visiting on Saturdays. The blockout schedule is consistent up until February 13th, when Cast Members are blocked from visiting the rest of February…or are they?

Eager fans are pointing to the Cast Member blockout schedule as a sort of canary in the coal mine, and the blocking out of Cast Members on February 13th is said to be in indication of a soft opening of the attraction…or so Disney fans think. The idea is that Disney would want to block their Cast Members from visiting when the attraction is in soft opening to prevent too much crowding. Disney has done so in the past, and likely will continue to do so in the future. Perhaps the most extreme example of this is blocking out Cast Members from visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios for more than a year due to the popularity of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. While it’s possible that Disney could open Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in February, in this particular instance we wouldn’t put too much credence into the February 13th date. The next question is: why don’t we believe in that date?

While it is true that Cast Members are blocked out from visiting EPCOT after February 13th, it’s important to note that they are blocked out from visiting all four Disney World theme parks starting February 13th. In this case, we believe that Disney simply hasn’t updated Cast Member theme park availability calendar past February 13th. While they have posted the full month calendar for February, it is our belief that they will perform rolling availability updates similar to how they post rolling theme park hours at the end of each week.

So, while BlogMickey.com sources have indicated that the attraction looks finished on the inside, and has looked that way for weeks, we don’t think that Disney fans should be rushing to snag February 13th Disney Park Passes for EPCOT with the expectation of a soft opening for Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure just yet.

Disney is in a bit of a pickle here. They opened Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway back in March, just before the theme parks shut down for COVID-19. Since the parks reopened, Disney has not opened a major attraction and we’re all still waiting to see how they might approach revealing a new attraction to the world in the middle of a global pandemic. Perhaps Disney even waits until this summer or later to open Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure even though it is complete now. There are quite a few variables at play and right now Disney fans can only wait and see what Disney wants to do.
