Following the announcement that the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind attraction will be delayed to a 2022 opening, Imagineer Zach Riddley has announced the new name for the former Universe of Energy pavilion.
As many Disney fans know, the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind attraction takes over the former Universe of Energy and Ellen’s Energy Adventure attraction space. To create Cosmic Rewind, Disney gutted the former Universe of Energy structure and completely rebuilt the interior, which will mostly be queue space when the attraction opens in 2022. The actual meat of the attraction will take place in an auxiliary building that was built from scratch and took over a forested area that was unused.
Now, Riddley has announced that the building will be called the Wonders of Xandar pavilion, and be the home to a Galaxarium – a space that will feature a planetarium-type presentation where the Xandarians show us their world, their people and their advanced technologies. Imagineers say that the Wonders of Xandar is the first “other-world” showcase pavilion at EPCOT – a play on the existing World Showcase nomenclature.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is a family-friendly adventure, featuring a totally new type of roller coaster experience Disney is developing just for this attraction – a “storycoaster” that rotates 360 degrees so you’re always focused on all the action as you help the Guardians save the galaxy. Not only that, but Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will also feature the first reverse launch on a coaster in Disney history and is one of the longest enclosed coasters in the world. It’s a massive experience that will match the scale and adventure of the Guardians of the Galaxy films.
