The annual refurbishment of Splash Mountain is moving along well at Magic Kingdom, and is currently targeting a February 11th reopening. Scaffolding has been erected on the left side of the facade and crews have spent weeks power washing the exterior of the iconic ride. With the power washing likely completed on that section, crews are now reshaping the rock work to give the ride a facelift heading into 2022.

Splash Mountain will eventually close permanently as an attraction themed to Disney’s controversial Song of the South movie, and be rethemed to a Princess and the Frog attraction. Despite Disney’s original claims that a Princess and the Frog ride has been in the works since 2019, Magic Kingdom’s Vice President more recently said that the redesign is “going to take us a bit of time”.
