Disney has locked up their new MagicBand+ devices on store shelves after not having locks in the first few days of sale. The new wearable device, which adds light and vibration effects on top of what a standard MagicBand can do, retails at a higher price point than a standard MagicBand. According to Cast Members, the locks are to prevent theft of the devices, which has reportedly been a problem in the past couple of weeks. The devices were not behind locks at Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios initially.
If guests wish to purchase a MagicBand+, they must seek out a Cast Member to unlock the device before being able to purchase.
Cast Members are also locking up the charging cables, which are included with every MagicBand+ purchase, but can be purchased separately as well.
Standard MagicBand devices and accessories are not being locked up.
