Updated Aerial Photos Reveal Some Progress in World Celebration “Pit” at EPCOT

As Disney World continues towards a late 2023 opening of World Celebration, friend of the site bioreconstruct recently shared updated aerial photos of the construction taking place of the CommuniCore Hall structure, Journey of Water – Inspired by Moana, and the rest of the construction we’ve referred to as “the Pit“.

First, here’s an overview of the area, in which we can see the CommuniCore Hall structure in the lower left of the construction zone, Journey of Water – Inspired by Moana in the upper left, and the Creations Shop/Connections Eatery building to the right.

We’ll start with the most recent progress and the CommuniCore Hall structure that has replaced the World Celebration Festival Center.

CommuniCore Hall went vertical in mid-August with the construction of two concrete columns ahead of the arrival of steel. Work on the concrete portions of the structure wrapped up less than a month later in the second week of October before steel arrived to begin creating the shape of the structure you see below.

The CommuniCore Hall multi-purpose building replaces the World Celebration Festival Center, which was budget cut during the theme park closures in March 2020. CommuniCore Hall will be home to a festival stage, meet & greets, a demonstration kitchen, a mixology bar, and serve as a festival support center. It is expected to open in late 2023.

Here’s a look at concept art for the building, which will sit in the southwest corner of World Celebration.

Here’s a look at the festival stage that will be part of CommuniCore Hall.

Moving along, we can see work taking place at the Journey of Water – Inspired by Moana construction site. The walkthrough experience will take guests along the water cycle with some help from characters from Moana. The image was label by bioreconstruct where we can see the following features:

    1. New pavement near Spaceship Earth
    2. The backstage support facilities for the Journey of Water – Inspired by Moana experience
    3. The Journey of Water – Inspired by Moana experience

Finally, let’s take a look at the Festival Gardens and Dreamers Point areas. Another labeled photo shows new construction forms in the Festival Gardens area (2) and some work taking place right behind the construction wall (3). The area immediately behind the Spaceship Earth post-show building (top right) will be Dreamers Point where guests will be able to see a life-size statue of Walt Disney as he looks over EPCOT. The majority of the dirt area seen below will be the EPCOT Festival Gardens, which will be a lush space where guests will be able to enjoy decor for the latest EPCOT festival.

Here’s a look at concept art for Dreamers Point and the EPCOT Festival Gardens, respectively.

While there is some significant progress at CommuniCore Hall, and some encouraging progress for Journey of Water – Inspired by Moana, the World Celebration construction site is still mostly dirt as crews trod along toward a late 2023 opening for the entire area.
