Rivers of Light may have been canceled during the COVID-19 pandemic, but Disney still has the infrastructure to run a daytime or nighttime show in the Discovery River Amphitheater between Asia and DinoLand USA. In fact, Disney presented a daytime show called KiteTails as part of the 50th Anniversary celebrations at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. With KiteTails closed, Disney is making some changes to the amphitheater, and one, in particular, stands out like a sore thumb.
With the KiteTails show ended, Disney has reinstalled a speaker pole in the former landing zone for the kites. The recently reinstalled speaker pole contains some eye-catching theming and we took a few photos during a recent visit to Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
It’s possible that this theming may extend to all speaker poles. Currently, they are themed to blend in with the surroundings better, but some are uncovered completely. Here’s a look.
Speakers have been installed under the new theming, but don’t appear to be hooked up yet.
Disney has not announced any plans to utilize the space, but with Disney’s Animal Kingdom sorely lacking nighttime entertainment, and Disney unwilling to extend theme park hours enough to enjoy the park much past sunset, we aren’t holding our breath.
That said, Animal Kingdom seems poised for investment, and we do expect to hear more this year about plans to replace DinoLand USA with a Moana-themed area, and possibly even retheme the DINOSAUR attraction to a Zootopia-themed ride.
