New Amendment Targets Disney World Monorail System for State Inspections

An amendment filed by Republican Senator Nick DiCeglie appears to squarely target the Walt Disney World monorail system for state inspections. The amendment, which is attached to SB1250, seeks to introduce Florida Department of Transportation safety standards for “any governmentally or privately owned fixed-guideway transportation systems operating in this state which are located within an independent special district created by local act which have boundaries within two contiguous counties”.

The language is so narrowly written that it is a clear targeting of the Walt Disney World monorail (fixed-guideway) system that sits in the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (independent special district). The CFTOD covers land in both Orange and Osceola County (two contiguous counties).

Not only would the amendment grant the Florida Department of Transportation authority to create minimum safety standards, it would also grant State inspectors access to “conduct structural safety inspections”. The amendment says that the “inspectors must follow departmental safety protocols during safety inspections, including requiring the suspension of system service to ensure safety and welfare of inspectors and the traveling public during such inspections”.

In a worst-case scenario, the State could come in and shut down the monorail system to conduct inspections during the middle of a busy day. The amendment is just the latest from Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ rubber-stamp legislature in its efforts to punish Disney for speaking out against the “Don’t Say Gay” law.

    1. Good. Maybe Disney will finally be forced to update a system that has been plagued with problems and issues of late.

    2. The horror to “conduct inspections during the middle of a busy day”. Maybe they should wait until the monorail conveniently breaks down during a busy day, which isn’t a rare occurrence.

    3. It’s time Disney World moved to a more sane, progressive, state like New York, Ohio or Philadelphia. It’s too hot in Floria anyway, I feel bad for the staff and it’s unpleasant for the visitors.

    4. Attacking your BIGGEST, and to MANY, the ONLY allure to Florida. Well done idiot.

I KNOW this special needs Governor is going to make it so that the Monorail only gets shut down during busy days to disrupt EVERYONE. Floridians, and tourists. Don’t worry. We will make sure EVERYONE knows who’s messing with people’s very expensive Disney vacations. This fuckwit REALLY doesn’t know that this will severely hurt his chances at the presidency cause he’s screwing over his supporters too. Typical republican strategy.

Think about it Ronny, and his supporters (but don’t hurt yourselves), HYPOTHETICALLY speaking, What if Disney pulls out of Florida? You’re banking on Universal Studios? They don’t bring in enough, Disney made $82 Billion in 2022 while Universal Studios only made $7 Billion. So no. Universal can’t pick up the slack. Mami tourism? Rowdy college kids with barely a dime to their name. No, that won’t work either…Gator World…lol? I got nothing else. Face it. Ask someone what word comes to mind when they hear Florida, “Disney” is ALWAYS the answer.

So if Ronny does disrupt business by PURPOSELY calling for an “inspection” during August, and someone finds out it was done without cause to do so, that’s a disruption in business…hmmmm a VERY actionable offense.

“Disrupting businesses without proper authority and justification may violate laws related to property rights, contract law, and civil liberties. Additionally, if a governor disrupts businesses without a valid reason, they may face legal and political consequences, such as lawsuits, impeachment, and removal from office.”

Just you try it you pathetic, petty little man-baby.

    5. As a lifelong Floridian, I don’t want near anything FDoT manages. I’ll be taking the boat if they take over monorail management
