It looks like Disney World might take the downtime between the end of Annual Passholder previews today and the grand opening of Journey of Water – Inspired by Moana on October 16th to do a bit of last-minute work. While walking through the nature trail attraction today, we noticed score marks near the magical waterfall about midway through the self-guided walkthrough.

Seen below, the scoring in the ground is after the magical waterfall that (typically) parts as you walk through. While there is signage that tells guests to not run, some of the younger crowd seems to take the causal timing of the parting waterfall as a challenge to get wet and they run through before the water can part. This is creating a lot of splashing beyond the expected wet area and existing drains and even causing some water to pool beyond the envelope of the experience.

It’s possible that the work here is to create a way for the excess water to be caught. If additional drains are placed here, the work could be a bit more extensive than simple overnight pavement work. If that’s the case, we would not expect the attraction to have a soft opening in the coming days, but that’s all speculation. Cast Members we spoke with said that they have no idea if there will be soft openings before the October 16th grand opening.

Beyond this work, there are also some parts of the attraction that remain partially working, so it’s possible that Disney World might take some time to address some of those issues. We’ve seen signage indicating partial closures of the rain, spring, and ocean sections. While Imagineering hasn’t publically talked about it in depth, the attraction is actually quite tech-heavy in places to drive the interactivity.
