Judge Rules In Disney’s Favor, Pushes Hearing to 2024 After DeSantis’ Oversight District Failed to Produce Discovery In a Timely Manner

In a ruling yesterday afternoon, Judge Margaret Schreiber agreed with Disney that a hearing set for December should be pushed to next year. When granting Disney’s motion of a continuance of the summary judgment, Judge Schreiber said that she “believes [Disney] has made the appropriate showing with the argument presented today”.

Judge Schreiber said that while she is not making a ruling on the compliance of any party in the matter of discovery, she said that if there is an issue with discovery going forward, she would entertain a motion to resolve it. During Disney’s argument in front of Judge Schreiber, the lawyers outlined a series of missed deadlines from the DeSanits-controlled District to produce discovery.

Disney has previously accused the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District of “dodging obligations” when it comes to discovery. In a document filed with the state, the CFTOD said that it will “continue to work in good faith to respond” to a number of discovery requests. If we had to put on our prediction hat for a moment, we think that this will not be the last time that we hear of an issue with discovery, and there will likely be some motions to compel discovery from the CFTOD in the near future as Disney continues to build its case.

The hearing for a summary judgment will likely be moved to the second half of March 2024, but an official document outlining yesterday’s ruling and new timeline has not been uploaded to the county website as of publish time.

    1. If the Desantis lakies who were installed had nothing to hide, why are they dragging their feet on discovery? Let’s not forget the excuse from Desantis has been “BuT wHaT aBoUt ThE vOiCeS oF tHe TaXpAyErS???!!?!”

Yet Disney pays 85%+ of the taxes in that district. Plus Universal just got their own special district. And it functions largely the same as Disneys did before the state government decided to punish them for speaking out against a certain bill.

Weaponizing government power against a local business. I thought republicans were against that. I guess not.

    2. This was a win for Disney 💞 The court’s need to throw out everything DeSantis did to Disney and make DeSantis’s corrupt actions accountable. A hefty fine and jail time for DeSantis😁

    3. And DeSanctimonious is the guy who wants to be President of the United States? The Republicans have produced madmen for presidential candidates in 2024. Move over Xi, Putin, Kim, you have dictatorial competition in the United States.
