New Construction Underway in EPCOT’s Norway Pavilion

|

While visiting EPCOT today, we stopped by the Norway Pavilion to find some new construction walls in place. As you’ll see in the photos below, the construction walls surround a planter and some trees that are abutting the World Showcase promenade walkway. Here’s a closer look.

We’ll sort of walk 360 degrees around the walls, starting with the approach from the Mexico Pavilion side. As you can see, the walls jut out a bit into the promenade walkway, which will cause a bit of congestion during busier times.

Before we continue along the walkway, we’ll note that access to the Royal Sommerhus Anna & Elsa meet and greet remains open. There is no impact on the meet and greet, and the Frozen Ever After ride is on the other side of the pavilion, so it’s also unaffected. In fact, the only impact that these construction walls have is on the beer cart that is usually found in this area. Walt Disney World hasn’t announced any construction, but previous permits do list work in the area of the beer cart.

Moving along, we can see that the construction walls run some 75′ along the face of this portion of the pavilion.

Again, the walls don’t block access to anything but the beer cart. The restrooms remain open and accessible during the work, for now.

In terms of what could be taking place, the most likely bet is some walkway work to try and increase the square footage of the promenade. Similar work was done nearby in the Mexico Pavilion.

A permit filed in January listed Slalom Construction Services as the contractor for “general construction” at the Norway beer cart. Slalom has previously been contracted for work related to the ongoing reimagining of the Cool Ship kiosk in Magic Kingdom and work at the Droid Depot.
