Construction Walls Arrive in Harambe Market as Refurbishment Continues at Animal Kingdom

|

Good afternoon from Disney’s Animal Kingdom, where construction walls have been installed in Harambe Market as part of its ongoing refurbishment. As you may remember, Harambe Market closed back in October for a multi-month refurbishment. With Restaurantosaurus set to close in early February, Harambe Market will take on an expanded role as the main quick service location to serve burgers and chicken tenders. Here’s a look at the latest work and when you can expect Harambe Market to reopen.

Harambe Market Construction Walls

We’ll start with a look at Harambe Market from our visit to Disney’s Animal Kingdom today. As you can see, construction walls surround a good portion of the front of one of the quick-service windows at the Africa dining venue.

I had previously assumed that all of the work would take place in backstage areas to support higher expected volume once Restaurantosaurus closes, but it looks like there will be some guest-facing changes as well. If I had to guess, there will be some adjustments here to improve efficiency and reduce the time that guests will be forced to wait to order and pick up their food.

The construction walls stop short of Chef Mwanga’s Meats Shop, and they do not cover the Wanjohi Refreshment windows.

In terms of when we can expect Harambe Market to reopen, the presence of construction walls would suggest that it isn’t imminent. That said, it is our understanding that Walt Disney World wants zero downtime as it relates to burgers and chicken tenders. That means that Harambe Market will be open by February 2nd, if not a little bit earlier.

Recently, Walt Disney World posted operating hours starting in March, but we expect that February operating hours (or even January operating hours) will be announced shortly. An exact reopening date has not been identified yet.
