Is Tortuga Tavern Permanently Closed at Magic Kingdom?

|

The future of the Tortuga Tavern quick-service location appears to be in question after the latest update from Walt Disney World. In an update to the Magic Kingdom park map, Tortuga Tavern has been completely removed. Previously, it was on the map with a “seasonal” tag. Here’s the latest and what it may mean.

Tortuga Tavern Permanently Closed?

Tortuga Tavern hasn’t been open since Summer 2024, and a recent change to the Magic Kingdom park map could suggest that it is permanently closed. In the past, the quick-service dining location was useful during busy seasons at Magic Kingdom. That said, Walt Disney World has kept it closed for multiple busy seasons, and it doesn’t look like it’ll reopen.

In a recent update to the Magic Kingdom park map, Tortuga Tavern has been completely removed. Here’s a before/after of its removal.

While the removal of Tortuga Tavern from the new park map is notable, it is not the only reason why we think this dining location may never reopen. Of course, the biggest reason is just steps away – the Beak and Barrel Pirates of the Caribbean-themed bar. Beak and Barrel opened last Summer, and it has been a hit since then. I would imagine that a brand new, expensive lounge would be a location that Disney would want to drive 100% of foot traffic in this area to.

One thing that might complicate our theory is that the Tortuga Tavern dining location underwent a flooring refurbishment and redesign early last year. That said, the complete removal of the dining location from the park map suggests that it won’t be reopening anytime soon.

UPDATE (12:30pm): While it’s not clear why Tortuga Tavern was removed from the park map, our understanding is that Walt Disney World continues to plan on using the location as they have in the past few years. That is, it will retain “seasonal” status, and it will very likely continue to be used as a treats & cookies location during the seasonal Halloween and Christmas party events. The rest of our article remains unchanged for posterity.
