Concrete Pour Begins for Foundation of Frontierland Tower Crane

While visiting Magic Kingdom earlier today, we watched crews pour a concrete foundation for a tower crane at Piston Peak National Park. A mixer truck and a pump truck worked together. Crew members guided the pour into place near the existing retaining wall. As we reported when a tower crane began installation at the site, the crane’s steel framework is now visible from around Frontierland. Here’s the latest.

Piston Peak National Park Tower Crane Foundation Poured

IN THIS ARTICLE:

  • Crews poured a concrete foundation for a tower crane at the Piston Peak National Park construction site
  • The tower crane’s blue steel base structure is visible above the construction walls
  • Heavy equipment remains active across both the Piston Peak and Villains Land portions of the site

We watched the pour happen near Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. A mixer truck and a pump truck sat in the middle of the dirt pit, near the crane. Crew members worked around the pump truck’s boom as it stretched toward the pour location.

The tower crane’s blue steel base has grown tall enough to see from several spots around Frontierland. Several of the crane’s vertical steel sections are wrapped in plastic sheeting at the base during the concrete pour. Once the pour is finished, the installation of the crane should continue.

Elsewhere on the site, heavy equipment stayed in near-constant motion. Excavators and a wheel loader moved dirt near stacks of concrete drainage pipe. A mobile crane sat further back near the tree line. This activity looked centered on the north end of Piston Peak and in the Villains Land section of the site. The pace of dirt work and utility staging is encouraging, with vertical construction of Cars-themed attractions likely to begin this year.
