A tower crane is now under construction at the Piston Peak National Park construction site. We spotted the first section of the crane’s blue steel base standing among the dirt during a recent visit to Magic Kingdom. Crews also continued shaping and grading the land, burying the pipes that we’ve been watching them install. Here’s a closer look at the site and the latest work!
Tower Crane Takes Shape at Piston Peak National Park

The first piece of what appears to be a tower crane now stands at the Piston Peak National Park construction site. Its blue steel section rises from a set of footings near the southern middle of the dirt pit, with a ladder running up its interior. Formwork surrounds the base, which suggests crews will pour concrete at the base of the crane soon. This crane marks the next visible milestone for the Cars-themed area coming to Magic Kingdom.
Tower cranes like this one will rise section by section. Crews stack additional pieces on top over time as the structure grows tall enough to support construction of nearby buildings. In this case, attraction buildings. Only one segment is in place for now. The crane likely has a way to go before it reaches full height. It should continue to grow over the next week or so after crews pour the concrete base.
Continued Land Shaping and Pipe Work
Beyond the crane, the broader site remains a hive of activity, even on the weekend. Bulldozers and excavators continued reshaping and grading dirt across multiple areas of the pit. Crews moved soil into position ahead of the start of foundation work. Several pieces of heavy equipment, including CAT loaders and an excavator, worked different sections of the site at the same time.
Crews continue to bury pipe that we previously saw installed underground. We reported when that underground pipe installation began, and aerial photos showed those pipes covered by dirt. Generators and other equipment are staged near the retaining wall on the site’s southern edge.
