It looks like Disney has begun the process of enclosing the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind attraction entrance. As you can see in the photos below, plywood has been added to the metal studs that created the shape of the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind attraction entrance.
Here’s a look at the latest concept art for the attraction facade.
Even this most recent concept art appears to be slightly outdated, unless Disney creates more openings that simply don’t exist right now.
Another interesting development on the project site was the removal of the scrim that was covering what appeared to be the base for the Xandarian ship seen in the concept art. Here’s a look back at the scrim.
As you can see in the photo below, not only is the scrim gone, but it doesn’t look like any significant progress was made in the area. It’s possible that most of the work that has taken place at this point was below the surface, perhaps preparing necessary infrastructure for the ship. The area in question is represented by the lighter colored dirt in the photo below.
Disney snubbed both Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and TRON Lightcycle Run from a list of attractions they were excited for in 2021. That, combined with rumors of construction pauses, may add up to a 2022 opening date for both attractions. Officially, Disney still says that both attractions will be ready before the 50th Anniversary kicks off in October 2021.
