Permit Filed for Work Possibly Related to Contemporary Room Refurbishment

As we first reported earlier this month, Disney’s Contemporary Resort will be undergoing room refurbishments beginning in April. While Disney has yet to officially announce the refurbishments and their plans for the rooms, it’s possible that they could be revisiting the idea of an Incredibles-themed mid-century modern look for the rooms. It wasn’t that long ago that we spotted a couple of guest rooms gutted to test an Incredibles-themed look.

Now, we’ve spotted a permit from a major Disney contractor for upcoming work on Disney’s Contemporary Resort. While the permit only lists “general construction” as the description of the work, the contractor listed on the permit could point to significant work incoming.

Hoar Construction is a major Disney World contractor and has worked on a variety of projects from New Fantasyland, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Disney’s Hollywood Studios arrival experience overhaul, Flamingo Crossings, Mission: SPACE, Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster, and more.

The only other work that we know of taking place in the area is the Bay Cove Pool water play area over at Bay Lake Tower. This work is already underway, and is scheduled to be completed early next month. With an expiration date of December 31, 2021, its unlikely that this new permit pertains to the water play area work.

Circling back on the information that we do know about the Contemporary Resort room refurb, Cast Members said that there will be limited to no availability in the Contemporary Resort main tower from April 2021 through September 2021, perhaps reopening in October 2021. That timeline might more closely resemble the scope of work scheduled to be completed before the end of this year in the permit.

Finally, it’s always worth noting that its possible that this permit could be for something else entirely. That said, if it is for the room refurbishment, we expect to see more than a few new pillows when the rooms reopen later this year.

Over at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, crews will take roughly the same time period to gut and retheme the rooms to a Moana-inspired look. The work is already underway at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and it is expected to reopen this summer.
