UPDATE (1/5): Disney has extended the Tomorrowland PeopleMover refurbishment through January 30, 2021. Our original story continues below, although it is now outdated.
According to the internal Walt Disney World refurbishment calendar, the Tomorrowland PeopleMover could reopen this Sunday, January 10th. The months-long refurbishment is currently scheduled to come to an end January 9th.
Back in November, we wrote an article outlining the possibility of the Tomorrowland PeopleMover opening in January 2021, and nothing has necessarily changed since then as it relates to the calendar itself. That said, we have seen some activity in terms of testing since we wrote that article back in November. In mid-December, and pretty consistently since then, Disney has been testing the ride vehicles as they make upgrades to the ride.
Of course, there are two noteworthy aspects to consider. First, there are no operating times posted to the Walt Disney World website. This is significant – we wouldn’t necessarily book a trip to Magic Kingdom just yet for this upcoming weekend. The second thing to consider is that Disney is not afraid of extending the refurbishment on a whim. By our count, Disney has extended the refurbishment a half-dozen times already. While we are hopeful that Disney is able to stick to the schedule that they have outlined on the My Disney Experience app and their own website, it’s possible that they will extend it further.
