According to BlogMickey.com sources, an announcement about the return of Fantasmic is coming soon. Rehearsals have been ongoing as the Cast prepares to bring back the nighttime show…with a few upgrades.
The theater itself has undergone upgrades that will support the show. Last fall, we saw refurbishment kick into high gear as crews pushed to complete work on the theater to allow for rehearsals. In November of last year, Disney announced that Fantasmic would be returning to Disney’s Hollywood Studios sometime in 2022 and that there would be a new scene for the show.
Since that announcement, BlogMickey.com reported on a rumor that the Pocahontas scene would be cut from the show, but there has been no official word from Disney since then.
Earlier this year, the moat that surrounded the theater was refilled as crews completed some infrastructure work on the theater.
Now, it looks like an announcement on the show’s return could be imminent. Sources aren’t clear on when, exactly, the show will return, but they do indicate that the show is ready for a return soon. An exact timeframe hasn’t been given, but the show will likely be ready to return as soon as April, with a hold until Memorial Day (or later) possible if Disney wants a summer marketing carrot. However, as we await more news on the return of traditional meet and greets in the Easter timeframe, it might make sense for Disney to have a nighttime show ready for the next wave of crowds at the resort.
As with any rumor, you should treat the information in this post as unofficial unless and until Disney confirms it.
