Guests visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios may notice that the first shop that you see in the theme park has a new sign! The Sid Cahuenga’s One-of-a-Kind store first opened in 1989 with the opening of Disney-MGM Studios and it used to sell movie memorabilia. According to Disney D23, the store even used to sell authentic autographs from Walt Disney – priced well over $1,000. While the building stands to this day, it was repurposed back in 2013 to become a MyMagic+ service counter and then a Disney PhotoPass sales and support location.

Recently, the marquee of the location was changed and a couple of Cast Members have told us a story behind the reasoning for the change. Whether it’s true or not, it doesn’t matter for a location as storied as Sid Cahuenga’s.

First, here’s a look back at the old marquee. As (very recent) legend has it, the reason the sign was changed was because too many guests misread “Curios” as “Churros” and would wander into the store looking for a sugary snack. Once inside, they would be disappointed to find a Disney PhotoPass counter and pin trading area.

The story seems as farfetched as any we’ve heard, and the location was actually long overdue for a new sign properly describing what guests can find inside, but it was too fun not to include. Anyway, here’s the new sign, which includes the Disney PhotoPass branding. Sid Cahuenga’s One-of-a-Kind remains the name of the store, but instead of “Antiques and Curios”, the sign now says “Tinseltown Photos”. The new sign pays homage to the branding of old, which used to include “Tinseltown Treasures”.

The rest of the location remains as…unique, as ever.
