In a presentation at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecom Conference this afternoon, Disney CEO Bob Iger said that an Avatar-themed “land” is coming to the Disneyland Resort. Iger noted that there is an Avatar-themed land in Disney World, and that they would be putting another one in California. Previously, the Avatar offering has been referred to as an “experience” with very few details offered. The Avatar experience was first announced just over a year ago.
But most importantly, we have so much IP to mine, that there’s opportunity there to create experiences that we know people will love to have in our parks. So, many examples. We have one Avatar‐based land, Pandora, in Florida. We’re going to put a second one in California. That doesn’t mean we can’t put one in – somewhere in Asia and somewhere in Europe, as a for instance.
Earlier this year, Avatar Producer Jon Landau shared that he visited with Walt Disney Imagineers.
Disney has previously released info that seemed to hint that the Avatar experience was going to be similar in scale to Pandora – The World of Avatar at Animal Kingdom, but never confirmed that the offering would be a full-blown land until Iger’s comments today.
