Lakefront Infrastructure Installation & Viewing Zone Creation Underway for New Disney Springs Drone Show

Earlier this month, we brought you the news that work was underway for the new Disney Springs drone show debuting in late May. Today, we made it out to Disney Springs to find that more work is underway, including lakefront infrastructure updates to provide the best possible viewing experience. Join us on a walk around the Disney Springs waterfront to check in on the latest work.

‘Disney Dreams That Soar’ Drone Show

Before we get to the construction (and some encouraging signals), here’s a description of the Disney Dreams That Soar drone show:

At Disney Springs, drones take to the skies above Lake Buena Vista with “Disney Dreams That Soar,” a summertime experience that will be a late-night perk for visitors. “You can fly” takes on a whole new meaning as we showcase Disney stories celebrating the joy of flight with state-of-the-art drones choreographed to create designs in the sky and paired with a “soaring” musical score (see what I did there?) and memorable movie quotes. After spending a day delighting in shopping, discovering fun activities and savoring diverse flavors at Disney Springs, turn your eyes to the skies above the West Side with a show amongst the stars. “Disney Dreams That Soar” will run nightly from May 24 through Sept. 2!

    Launch Site

Over on the West Side of Disney Springs, past Cirque du Soleil and taking over a portion of the Strawberry Lot is the drone launch site. It looks like the fencing of the area is coming along nicely, and a trailer has arrived on the site, perhaps the show control booth.

    Infrastructure Updates & Viewing Areas

Perhaps the most encouraging thing we’ve seen so far for the new drone show is the scale of infrastructure updates that Disney Springs is making for the show. Currently, Disney is installing speakers along the lakefront, and even creating a viewing zone that will have the best audio (and maybe viewing angle) for the new show.

Over near Cirque du Soliel and House of Blues is a grassy area that Disney looks to be using as the ideal viewing location for the show. In addition to the largest speaker stack so far, Disney also has lighting for the area. Furthermore, there is a concrete pad near Cirque du Soliel that could serve as a nice overflow or crowd management area. This grassy area is near the launch point, so there might be some restrictions on viewing, but I would bet that the audio here will be phenomenal. Of course, you can view the show from anywhere in Disney Springs by looking skyward, but this area and the lakefront walk will provide the best views and audio for the show.

Here’s a look at the work taking place on the lakefront walkway that stretches from Aerophile to House of Blues.

Here’s a look back at the fenced launch site and viewing area from near the Aerophile balloon.
