In a statement this afternoon to preferred media, Disneyland President Ken Potrock said that a “large swath” of announcements at the Horizons Disney Parks keynote on Saturday evening are expected to be about the Disneyland Resort.
With the DisneylandForward rezoning effort now in effect and approved by the City of Anaheim, the Disneyland Resort is expected to expand by 50% in the coming decades. One of the first projects associated with the DisneylandForward project (but not necessarily on rezoned land) is the Avatar land expected to be announced for Disney California Adventure. Disneyland has previously explored adding Pandora to the Hollywood Land section of the park, and it is expected that more details will be released this weekend at the D23 Expo.
In the concept art above, we can see a boat ride featuring a larger (and likely more dynamic) boat than Na’vi River Journey in Pandora – The World of Avatar in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Other possibilities for Disneyland announcements are the ever-present rumors of a Tomorrowland refresh, possibly a new land in Disneyland Park featuring attractions from Fantasy Springs at Tokyo DisneySea, or some Blue Sky ideas for the DisneylandForward expansion pads for Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure.
Potrock has been a vocal advocate for Disneyland and the DisneylandForward initiative, saying that he wants “more than [Disneyland’s] fair share” of the $60 billion in “turbocharged” funds that will be pumped into the theme parks division of The Walt Disney Company.
Here are some of Potrock’s comments from this afternoon, where he not-so-slyly hinted at the content of the upcoming Disney Experiences keynote on Saturday, August 10th at 7pm local time.
