The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued the 8am advisory on Tropical Storm Helene, and it’s nearly at hurricane strength already. Maximum sustained winds are at 70mph right now, just 5mph short of becoming a named hurricane. The NWS expects Helene to strengthen into a hurricane today, and we think it’s possible that the 11am update is when it becomes official. Here’s a look at the latest forecast cone for the center of the storm. The cone continues to shift west, with landfall in the Big Bend area of northern Florida likely.
In terms of forecasted impact for Walt Disney World, guests visiting today can expect some rain later today, with most of the effects of the storm felt Thursday. Gusty and rainy conditions are expected Thursday at Walt Disney World, with some localized heavy rainfall as the storm passes west of Tampa Bay throughout the day.
Walt Disney World has issued its first statement on Helene, saying that they’re monitoring the storm, but currently operating under normal conditions. No operational adjustments have been announced for Thursday, but you can expect standard weather-related closures for outdoor attractions as the day progresses.
